Description

This two-day, hands-on workshop introduces students to the traditional Moroccan plaster known as Tadelakt—a lime-based finish valued for its depth, movement, and natural water resistance.

Students will learn the full process from start to finish, including material handling, application, compression, burnishing, and sealing. Emphasis is placed on understanding how the material behaves, recognizing proper timing, and developing control over the surface as it transitions through each stage.

Instruction includes a live demonstration on cement board, followed by guided, hands-on practice. Each student will create multiple sample boards, working through different stages of the process to build a clear understanding of both technique and finish.

The class covers both traditional and modern approaches, including the use of an olive oil soap sealer as well as a permanent sealing system, with discussion on when and where each method is appropriate.

Students will also be introduced to common challenges such as overworking, improper timing, and surface defects, along with practical methods for correcting and repairing these issues.

This workshop is designed for decorative painters, plasterers, and anyone interested in expanding their skillset into high-end, specialty finishes. No prior experience with Tadelakt is required, though a basic understanding of finishing techniques is helpful.

All tools and materials are provided. Students will leave with completed sample boards and a working knowledge of traditional Tadelakt application, ready to begin applying the technique in their own work.
