Welcome to The Historic City of Frederick Mural

Help Us Finish What Was Started — A Welcome Mural for, The Historic City Frederick

We are shut down for the winter, the high winds lately make it unsafe to tent the project, Schulded completion date is May 2026

Over a decade ago, I was commissioned to paint a two murals as part of Frederick’s Wayfinding Sign Project. This project was meant to help visitors navigate our beautiful city, pointing them to landmarks like Carroll Creek Linear Park, City Hall, Winchester Hall, and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.

Two murals were planned: one on Market Street and another on East Patrick Street.

I got as far as laying down the first elements of the Market Street mural—just beside the Time Bomb Tattoo shop—before the company that hired me (from out of state) disappeared. The project was never finished. All these years, it’s been a visual reminder of something that was almost beautiful… and left behind.

Fast forward to a conversation I had with a mayoral candidate and some fellow locals a few years ago. He said something that stuck with me:

“There’s no real welcome when you enter Frederick.”

And he was right. Whether you’re driving in or walking downtown, you’re often greeted by blank brick walls, industrial buildings, and commercial signage—not art, not culture, not history.

That’s when I knew: it was time to finish what we started.

The Vision: A Grand Welcome

I spoke with Mr. Burt Anderson, owner of the historic building at 306 E Patrick Street, and shared the idea with him. He loved it — especially when I mentioned I wanted the mural in the Art Nouveau style, full of warmth, curves, and timeless beauty.

He offered the wall.

Now, I’m offering you the chance to be part of this permanent piece of Frederick’s future.
